The cherry blossoms that line the YISS driveway each spring are a beautiful sign of the change in seasons as well as two annual events, the Spring Book Fair and Spring Uniform Consignment Sale.

Spring Book Fair

The book fair committee was happy to welcome back book vendors, KidsBook Sejong and Word of Life, from April 17-19 for this year’s event. During those three days, the school’s main lobby was filled with tables of colorful and intriguing books for readers of all ages. The "recommended books" section with titles selected by YISS librarians and English teachers had a steady stream of shoppers.

Book fairs not only provide a wonderful opportunity for those in the YISS community but also for guests to conveniently purchase quality English books at great prices. Word has spread about the event as it seems to be drawing a growing number of visitors.

Sales for the three-day fair totaled well over ₩40 million. As a result, over ₩4 million (10% of sales) will be donated to the YISS PTO to support educational enrichment opportunities. Thank you, students, parents, teachers, and staff for your wholehearted support!

Uniform Consignment Sale

With a colorful view of the cherry blossoms, the Uniform Consignment Sale was happy to be alongside the Spring Book Fair.

In the weeks leading up to the big sale, chairs Sarah Naidoo and Tarjani Atal worked tirelessly to collect the huge stockpile of gently used uniforms from both teachers and parents. The huge task of then sorting these items according to color and size and then hung was made easy and done in record time thanks to enthusiastic volunteers.

Armed with calculators, reused shopping bags, and yummy snacks, the UCS volunteers were ready for the first customers. The sale lasted three days, and cleaning up was quick with the help of amazing high school volunteers.

While this sale helps many YISS families find uniforms at an affordable price, helping the community is the event’s biggest reward. Furthermore, many of the uniforms that went unsold were donated.
