For the second straight year, the YISS swim teams competed virtually amid the continuing pandemic. Despite difficulties in never swimming next to a competing swimmer from another team, our high schoolers were able to capitalize on their training, rely on each other for motivation, and push themselves to personal best times.

Throughout conference competition, the girls’ team captured their second conference championship with an undefeated season. All-conference swimmers for the girls’ team includes: Katherine H. (12), Joyce K. (11), Sophie C (11), Jaimie H. (10), and Soul J. (9).

The boys’ team, never able to roster a full team due to injury, placed third in conference. All-conference swimmers for the boys’ team includes: Eric O. (12), Yudon S. (12), Jimin H. (10), Andrew K. (10), and Nathan L. (9).

The season culminated over the second weekend in February with KAIAC Championships. The girls’ team won their second championship in a row and the boys’ team placed second. All-tournament swimmers for the girls include: Katherine H. (12), Joyce K. (11), Sophie C. (11), Gina K. (11), Jaimie H. (10), and Soul J. (9). All-tournament swimmers for the boys include: Eric O. (12), Jimin H. (10), and Jeffery Y. (10).

The championship meet also awards swimmers who score the most individual points overall and swimmers whose times are closest to the current world records. The high point winner was Eric O. (12), and the top performers of the meet were Eric O. (12) and Joyce K. (11).

A number of school records were broken over the course of the season and are listed below.

Joyce K. (11): 200 Freestyle (2:12.69), 100 Individual Medley (1:10.34), 400 Freestyle (4:43.46), 200 Individual Medley (2:29.34)

Eric O. (12): 100 Freestyle (51.59), 50 Butterfly (:26.83), 400 Freestyle (4:02.98), 200 Individual Medley (2:08.07).
