5th Graders Compete in Alpine Ski Racing Championships

On March 1, 2022, two of our YISS elementary students competed in the Alpine Ski Racing Championships. Fifth grader Justin S. won his division, beating out 18 other boys from the qualifiers to take first place while fifth grader Elisa M. won first place in the semifinals for her event, the giant slalom.

Both Justin and Elisa have been skiing for several years. What started as a family leisure activity for Elisa turned into a passion for racing. This season, she also placed in the following competitions: third place in the 7th Korea Open Racing Championships, fourth place in the Seoul Sports Council Ski Competition, and sixth place in the 6th Korea Junior Racing Ski Championships (Papa John’s).

For Justin, although he was disappointed in his finishes in his first few years of competition, his passion for the sport won out and caused him to begin training harder. Justin also received first place in the following competitions this season: Pyeongchang Pyeonghwa Ski Dual Race, 7th Korea Open Racing Ski Championships, and the 10th YMCA National Youth Ski Competition.

Congratulations to our young YISS athletes who show passion and dedication as they work to achieve their goals!
