Guardian Roundup: June 2025
YISS wants to recognize and celebrate the talent and hard work of our students who excel in activities and competitions that take place at a high level both inside and outside of school. In this edition of the Guardian Roundup, YISS would like to highlight the following students and their recent accomplishments:
First grader Yul K. was cast in a leading child role in a nationally broadcast drama after passing a competitive audition. This was Yul’s first time auditioning for a major role, and he successfully secured a significant part in the drama, 라이딩인생 (Riding Life), that aired in March. Currently, he is appearing in the KBS drama, 여왕의 집 (Queens House).
Second grader Georges D. placed fifth place out of sixteen participants at the KPGA Junior Rainbow Level-Up Tournament, held in Kunsan on May 18.
Sixth grader Lena S. won first place in the Avatar Design category for the Words Across Korea ELL Writing Competition, held amongst international students across South Korea. Her graphic design is now featured as the representative image of the competition. You can view her design here. The competition was held on May 9.
First grader Evelyn Y. placed first place while playing the piano at the International Kook Jey Music Concours held in Bucheon on April 26.
Third grader Hari K. placed third place at the City Student Music Concours held at SeJong University on April 5.
Second grader Jae Yoon C. won the Grand Prize at the 30th Korea Student English Speech Contest hosted by the World Entertainment Exchange Association. The contest was held at the Baekbeom Kim Koo Memorial Hall on March 22.
Eighth grader Camila H. qualified as a representative of Seoul City in the 2025 Korea Sports For All Festival, a national swim competition held in Mokpo on April 26 and 27. She received a silver medal for the 50m Butterfly event and a bronze medal for the 50m Freestyle event.
