Middle Schoolers Stay Active with Soccer and Cross Country
The middle school fall sports season has been impacted by COVID in many ways. We delayed the start of tryouts by one week to let everyone get back on track with school and adjusted to our new normal when it comes to practices. Unfortunately, for the safety of our students, our KAIAC jamborees and tournaments were canceled for the fall season.
With the shifting climate surrounding COVID-19, our middle school sports programs came to a halt after the soccer and cross country tryouts. Thankfully, we were able to resume these activities when we came back to school in the hybrid learning model, and this allowed for two grades to practice together at a time. We will continue with this practice-only schedule for two more weeks until the end of the fall season.
I am excited to say that we had some new faces take on coaching roles this season. High school substitute teacher, Rob Harrison, took over as the head boys soccer coach, and high school Japanese teacher, Samin Kim, filled the assistant coaching position. For girls soccer, middle school P.E. teacher, Brandon Trevino, is the head coach, and substitute teacher, KatieJo Delise, took on the role of assistant coach. For cross country, high school P.E. teacher, Brock Rose, assumed the head coaching position while we were able to retain fifth-grade teacher, Stacy Trevino, as the Assistant coach.
I am very pleased with how well our coaches and athletes have handled our ever-changing schedule along with the disappointment of not being able to compete in KAIAC competitions. Through it all, they have maintained their love and dedication to their sports.
