New Students and Parents Welcomed at Orientations

On August 5 and August 8, it was a joy to welcome new families to campus for the 2022-23 New Student Orientations held by each division. Even the record levels of rain couldn’t keep our new middle and high school families from meeting their teachers and administrators.

For the elementary orientation, the administrative team presented to families in the auditorium, then staff volunteers helped families navigate the many halls and wings of the school to find their homerooms.

During the middle school orientation, numerous staff volunteers welcomed families in MPR2 for a presentation and greeting.

While, in the high school, the student-led L-Crew volunteered to take new students on a scavenger hunt to learn the landscape of the high school while parents met the principals in the secondary media center. In both middle and high school, new students were able to spend most of the day on campus, allowing them to get accustomed to the hallways of YISS.

For all orientations, tables were set up in the lobby for parents to complete any last-minute tasks for their children to be prepared for the first day of school. If it wasn’t J&J Catering setting up lunch cards, it was Nurses Han and Kim helping parents with medical forms. Ms. Karen Im helped with transportation services, while Ms. Eunji Im made sure all students had their photos taken for their IDs. Ms. Lim and Ms. Lee also prepared the vehicle decals prior to the new families’ arrivals.

Mr. Hale and Ms. Sampson answered questions about the ASA program, and the Technology Office was on hand providing support with Schoology. Their expertise allowed students and parents to navigate the platform with confidence. YISS’s wonderful PTO received parents with cookies and an invitation to attend their upcoming events, the Newcomer’s Coffees.

During New Student Orientations, families were able to connect with other families, fellow classmates, and the school staff, allowing them to feel welcomed into the YISS community.
