Volleyball Teams Face Off in Intramural Season

With the safety of our school community in mind, KAIAC schools decided against interscholastic play for the 21-22 volleyball season. With these restrictions in mind, our YISS volleyball coaches created a season of intramural games, culminating in The Guardian Games double-elimination tournament.

For the first time in YISStory, our team rosters included a JV boys’ team. With so much talent to pull from, the coaches created intermixed squads to compete in various games throughout the season including Blue vs. White, Boys vs. Girls, and even JV vs. Varsity.

The final tournament included three boys’ teams and three girls’ teams of intermixed varsity and JV players. The competition was fierce and spectators commented that it was like watching varsity teams compete against each other similar to a regular KAIAC tournament, a testament to the depth of skill in our program this year. In the end, Team B took the win for the boys while Team C won out for the girls.

All-tournament boys’ players included: Danny K, Ryan R, Noah C, Minjae K, Eric L, Taehoon K, Joshua K, Ryan S, Ashton S, David L, Andrew S, and Zachary C. All-tournament girls’ players included: Sydney C, Yenah L, Alex S, Sumi L, Anna L, Chloe L, Jisoo K, Gina K, Diane L, Ashley S, Zoe C, and Helena M.

At the end of the year awards banquet on November 21, students were also presented with the MVP awards, Coach’s awards, Guardian awards, and Spirit awards. Below are the winners from each team:

  • MVP Award winners: Sydney C. and Danny K.

  • Coach’s Award winners: Yenah L. and Ryan R.

  • Guardian Award winners: Alex S, Emily D, Noah C, and Philip Y.

  • Spirit Award winners: Jisoo K, Zoe C, Minjae K, and Justin P.
