YISS Hosts and Successfully Competes in Mock Trial Competition

On Saturday, April 20, the YISS Mock Trial club hosted and participated in a Korea-wide Mock Trial competition. Team A consisted of juniors Joanne L. and Irene G., as well as sophomores Sean L., Chanyoung C., Drishti T., and Rachel L. Team B was made up of sophomores Sophia L., Jeff K., and Andrew P., as well as freshmen Grace K., Anne L., and Hyunjung C. Both teams were able to successfully compete and win various different awards.

Team A won all three of their rounds, and four members were able to win awards. The team received comments from judges praising both the witnesses’ deliveries and characterization and the attornies’ well-phrased content and sharp wit. Besides winning both rounds, four members received individual awards. Sean L. (10) was awarded Best Attorney with a total of 22 points from both the prosecution and defense rounds. Rachel L. (10) and Irene G. (11) were both awarded Best Witness, with 15 and 17 total points respectively. Chanyoung C. (10) was awarded Outstanding Attorney with a total of 12 points.

Team B also received similar compliments, and as a team comprised primarily of new members, they performed very well. Jeff K. (10) was awarded Outstanding Attorney with a total of 22 points. Congratulations to these students on their success, and best wishes to all YISS Mock Trial students as they prepare for additional competitions later this year.
