YISS Competes at Middle School Math Competition

This year, PiSaders, a student organization at Seoul Foreign School, invited international schools across Korea to participate in their second annual middle school math competition. Upon receiving the invitation, there was a quick turnaround to advertise, form teams, register, and practice. Within just two weeks, an impressive 24 students signed up for the competition, and four teams were formed, filling the maximum number of teams and students that YISS could take. These dedicated students committed their remaining two weeks to meet during lunch, recess, and after school to answer AMC practice questions and strategize as a team.

The competition was held at SFS on Saturday, November 30, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. It began with an icebreaker that allowed students to intermingle with peers from other schools. Afterward, the rules and expectations were explained, and the students were given one hour to complete as many questions as possible, earning points for each correct answer. Despite the challenging nature of the questions, the students persevered, working together as a team to provide their best responses. In the end, all students expressed that they had enjoyed the experience, even with the difficulty, and were grateful for the opportunity to participate. One of YISS's four teams scored 143 points, earning them 4th place. Their determination and effort made the YISS community proud, leaving everyone eager to participate again next year.
