Tennis Teams Finish Season with YISS-Only Round Robin

This tennis season was nothing close to normal, but it was one to remember. Starting in August with tryouts, we were fortunate enough to have a large turnout. With so many unknowns for the season, we took an unprecedented number of girls on the team, 13, to our normal 10. The season was full of training, playing, and waiting to see what would come of our KAIAC matches. The girls worked hard all season to get into great shape and to improve their tennis skills. Throughout the season, we worked on conditioning, drill work, and lots of gameplay. We saw the girls grow closer together, bringing the underclassmen and new members into the fold.

We finished our season with a YISS-only tournament where senior Hyunjung C. took first place, sophomore Emily S. took second place, and sophomore Audrey Y. took home third. We also had some surprise guest matches including our very own headmaster, Dr. Zickefoose. We wrapped up our season with our tennis banquet where Hyunjung C. received the award for MVP, Alexis K. received the Guardian Award, Solim K. received the Coaches’ Award, and Hannah K. received the Spirit Award.

On the boys’ side, a solid group of players made up the varsity team this year, with a number of freshman players making the team. The players worked hard on their skills all season, culminating in a two-week-long, round-robin tournament, which gave players an opportunity for match play. The competition was fierce, with only one or two points separating many of the players. In the end, captain Joshua P. finished first, David C. and Tayne K. finished second, and Collin K., Kai M., and Dale S. tied for third.

Our tennis banquet gave us the opportunity to honor the hard work of our players and give out our awards. The MVP Award was given out to junior Joshua P. The Coach’s Award went to freshman Collin K., and the Guardian Award went to junior Stephan C. Congratulations to all the players on the varsity team for their dedication and hard work!

The KAIAC competition was certainly missed, but bonds were formed, skills were improved, and we got to play the sport we love, so we'll call it a season well spent. Thanks for all of the support!
